October 2010 - Basque Country!

Our monthly Sunday tasting presented by Alice our Delicatessen Specialist.

The name is a giveaway!!!

We will have all manner of Basque delights from Ossau Iraty, Saucisson through to rare hams from the region.

Patrick our Basque specialist will be on hand to talk you through the tasting and he may even have something else a little special on hand to sample!!

Well worth a visit from 10am!

September 2010 - Britain at its Best!

Britain at its Best - a celebration of regional products.

Autumn is here and with it our wonderful crop of apples and pears, so how better to celebrate than with great British cheeses, hams, fruit, cider and of course Kentish wines.

Look out for Colston Basset Stilton, Montgomery’s Cheddar, Kirkhams Lancashire matched up with Alderton Ham, North Downs Cider and perhaps the odd Cox!!

Join us from 10 am!

August 2010 - A Spanish Summer Picnic

Our monthly Sunday tasting presented by Alice our Delicatessen Specialist.

We’ve done Italy, now Alice will be offering up a taste of Spain. There will be a range of cheeses ideal for summer eating: Manchego with membrillo (quince paste), spicy blue Picos de Valdeon amongst others and of course some meats: chorizo piccante, Jamon Serrano and maybe a little Mallorcan sobrasada!

It will all be washed down with some wine, a touch of bread and some Spanish salads.

As always Alice will be ready for action from 10am! 

August 2010 - New Kentish Pear Juice

LazyLunchCome and join Kentish farmers 'The Longs' as they offer samplings of their brand new Conference Pear Juice ... fresh off the press from pears grown at Marshgate Farm near Rochester.

Refreshing and light it makes an excellent alternative to its better known cousin, and we might try matching it up with some Kentish cheese.

Tastings are from 11am 'til 2.00pm, and with the Longs growing the fruit themselves you will have the opportunity to bombard them with questions!

July 2010 - Lazy Lunching - Italian Style

LazyLunchThis Sunday Alice, our delicatessen supervisor, will be offering one of her monthly tastings: the art of simple Italian charcuterie and cheeses, ideal for these balmy summer days.

Alice will have Rosemary cooked ham, numerous cheeses (we have just had in a lovely ‘Italian drunkard’, wine aged cheese, that will be on her table), olives and anti pasti and of course an inevitable drop of wine!!

June 2010 - Brindisa Spanish Tasting

Tyrrells Brindisa the fantastic London based Specialist Spanish importers will be doing a very interesting tasting on Saturday the 5th of June. There will be some unusual products on show and the theme is fish.

It is an opportunity to sample delicate smoked mackerel and anchovies that are one of the gastronomic delights of the peninsula as well as Ortiz line caught yellow fin tuna perfect for summer salads…there is tinned tuna and then there is tinned tuna!!!

Come and join us and perhaps enjoy a glass of wine on the sun filled patio as well!

May 2010 - Tyrrells Potato Chips will be joining us!

Tyrrells Supervising from seed to chip, Tyrells has been delivering high quality potato chips from their own potato crop in Herefordshire since 2003.

Come and experience the fresh summer flavours of BBQ and Garden Herb as well as the traditional favourite Mixed Root Vegetables.

Tyrells did not stop with just these three flavours, you'll find we carry a full range of their 40g and 150g bags from the ever-popular Lightly Salted to the adventurous Beetroot.

April 2010 - Wicks Manor Pork

WicksManorThe farmer and producer of these wonderful pork sausages will be dishing out tasters and anecdotes willy-nilly!

Of course, none of us can turn down a free sausage so why not come down and join us to sample these little beauties, learn more about how Wicks Manor raise their pigs and how they make their sausages!

April 2010 - Mark Gilchrist's 'Pop Up' Restaurant

Friday 23rd April
7.30pm

Fresh from his appearance with Jay Raynor on BBC One's "The One Show", Kent game chef Mark Gilchrist will be setting up his restaurant in our shop for one night only! The set menu will include a range of local produce:

Starter - Home Made Kentish Trout Gravadlax
Main - Mark's signature dish: The King's Pie (rabbit, pancetta, wild mushrooms and tarragon)
Pud - Tarte au Citron

All dishes with accompaniments and condiments!

Mark will be available for questions and discussion throughout the evening (when not at the stove!), particularly with regard to his first love ... game!

ALL THIS FOR JUST £25 PER HEAD (£10 deposit required) - Kentish Wines and Fruit Juices will be available for purchase by the glass.

Alice our Delicatessen Supervisor will have these three key, big flavoured, Italian cheeses available for tasting, contrasting and generally musing over. If you have not yet tasted them or perhaps only use them in cooking come along and enjoy them as they deserve to be enjoyed.

OpiesLocal traditional food producer Bennet Opies will be sampling their famed 'Pickled Walnuts' and Gherkins. Ian Escritt from Opies will be on hand so that we can ask questions like "what are we actually supposed to do with a pickled walnut?!"

March 2010 - Jamon Iberico, Manchego and more ...

PatrianaPatrick of Patriana will be carrying out one of his fantastic tastings of some of Europe's most exclusive products. If you have only heard of Jamon Iberico then now is an opportunity to taste it!! Patrick will also be showing Manchego Cheese and Cured Meats - products that we hold on our counters.

Come and join the Gourmet Fun from 10.30am to around 2.30pm.

March 2010 - Gum Tree Apiary

10.00am to 3.00pm

Leanne from Gum Tree Apiary will be with us to sample her family's imported Australian honeys. Even though local honey is going to popular this time of year because of allergy prevention, these honey's deserve special attention as they have such a fantastic taste! GumTree

There will be three types to choose from - A Red Gum, A York Gum and an Active Jarrah. The Jarrah is like a Manuka but, unlike the Rowse Manuka +10 we currently stock, it's a +20 so its healing powers are even greater.

February 2010 - Moor's Apple Juice
